New Zealand Delphiniums (formerly Dowdeswell’s Delphiniums) was founded in 1982 as an alternative crop for the cutflower trade in New Zealand. They started with delphinium seed imported from England but, after the success of their hybrid bred delphiniums, they started producing high quality, distinctive, delphinium varieties primarily from seed. The success of their specialist breeding has since led to their hybrid delphinium seeds being exported to many different countries around the world.
With the new Seed Blower, New Zealand Delphiniums can blow a lot more seeds more quickly and with more accuracy. They love the blower’s quietness, the ability for the blower to clean itself with the press of one button and the fact that the machine is portable, does not overheat and can be safely operated by any of their staff without fear that their seed will escape and fly around the room if someone loses focus.

When the employees of New Zealand Delphiniums heard that AgResearch from Lincoln, New Zealand was testing seeds on a new Laboratory Seed Blower from Seed Processing Holland and that they were very happy with the results, they contacted us to replace their DIY Seed Blower.
New Zealand Delphiniums operated an old blowing machine which had been constructed by a university as a project. It worked but had a lot of flaws. It had a small blowing capacity (50 grams per blow). It would overheat easily and if it got too hot seed would stick to the blowing tube. It was hard to clean and noisy.
The biggest problem was, if you did not pay attention when disconnecting and reconnecting the blowing tube, you could find your seed ‘exploding’ out of the machine and going all over the room! Because New Zealand Delphiniums sells specialised, expensive seeds, this last point had the potential to waste thousands of dollars. This meant that only certain staff were trusted to operate it.
Seed Processing Holland has two Seed Blowers that operate with the same principle as the DIY blowing machine. After talking about the requirements, the Laboratory Seed Blower Ø 100 mm CAM-4000 was offered and ordered.
