At Bayer’s Crop Science division in Wageningen, mainly carrots, legumes, spinach and brassica are grown. New varieties are developed and tested in their greenhouses. The plants are individually processed per batch, which requires the right seed processing machines.
Dust extraction, threshing and cleaning
After an extensive consultation process with Bayer, Seed Processing Holland has installed the entire spectrum of SPH seed threshing and cleaning machines – especially suitable for breeding purposes – at this location. The total project consisted of:
- Dust extraction installation
- Existing and new seed threshing and cleaning machines
For dust extraction, the machines with fixed and flexible pipes are connected to a central pipework, which in turn is connected to a compressed air cleaning filter. The dust that is released is filtered and the clean air is blown back into the relevant room, which saves energy. The dust is collected in big-bag containers that can be easily removed and emptied.
Threshing is an important first step in the seed processing process. Everything that can go wrong has consequences for the follow-up process and affects the ultimate quality of the seed. The installed Rotary Thresher, TMM-4200, gives a clean end result and no seed damage is possible, thanks to the clever design of the machine!
The next step is cleaning. After the first air cleaning, the seed is cleaned for 85%, followed by the following steps: sieving and fine air cleaning.
Result
The result is a clean and safe working environment with dust-free machines that are easy to clean. Time saving results in cost savings and the breeder seed has the highest possible purity. In Wageningen they are very satisfied with the high-quality seed that they can supply to their growers.
